Abstract
This research introduces the creation and utility of innovative two-dimensional pentafulvalene-fused compounds—YSH-oF, YSH-mF, and YSH-H—used as hole-transporting materials (HTMs) for crafting advanced perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The fluorinated variants, YSH-oF and YSH-mF, showcased superior hole mobility and enhanced charge extraction at the perovskite/HTM boundary compared to the non-fluorinated YSH-H. These advantages stem from the tight intermolecular π–π packing interactions enabled by the planar π-conjugated structure and the robust electron-pulling capability of the fluorine elements, resulting in optimal energy-level coordination. Consequently, small-area PSCs (0.09 cm²) made with YSH-oF and YSH-mF yielded impressive power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 23.59% and 22.76%, notably surpassing the YSH-H devices at 20.57% PCE. Remarkably, large-area devices (1.00 cm²) using YSH-oF achieved a 21.92% PCE. Beyond sheer efficiency, the fluorinated HTMs, specifically YSH-oF and YSH-mF, demonstrated exceptional durability, maintaining over 85% of their primary PCE after 1000 hours in ambient conditions, and above 78% post 200-hour exposure at 85°C. Such findings underscore the potential of fluorinated pentafulvalene-fused organics as cost-effective, efficient, and resilient HTMs for future PSCs.
