Abstract

In the realm of optimizing perovskite solar cells (PSCs), the quality of perovskite films stands paramount. Recognizing this, our research has explored the incorporation of specific cesium halides—CsCl, CsBr, and CsI—into the primary PbI2 precursor to refine the crystallization process of these films. Among the halides tested, CsI emerged as a standout modulator. Its introduction resulted in the generation of perovskite films that were dense, homogeneous, and boasted of heightened crystallinity. These films were also marked by a preferential orientation and an undiluted black perovskite phase. Beyond just the structural advantages, the films augmented with CsI showcased a significant leap in their carrier lifetime. This was attributed to a marked reduction in nonradiative recombination events within the film. In tangible terms, when these enhanced films were integrated into PSCs, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) experienced a notable uplift, moving from a baseline of 17.45% to an impressive 20.29%. In the context of real-world applicability, the stability of these devices was put to the test. The results were encouraging, with the CsI-augmented PSC retaining three-quarters of its initial PCE even after being subjected to 350 hours of continuous light exposure.
